Deco Bonsai by Jan Flook
Deco Bonsai: A Luminous Welcome on York Street, Ivanhoe
For this private commission on York Street, Ivanhoe, the Deco Bonsai lighting installation becomes a seamless extension of the home’s refined Art Deco-inspired interiors. Designed to enhance both form and function, this remarkable piece stretches an impressive 15 metres, illuminating the entryway and main hall with an elegant and harmonious glow.
At the Heart
At the heart of this design lies a meticulous balance between scale and softness. The light fixture is composed of 450mm diameter hand-slumped, sandblasted glass elements, each painstakingly crafted to create a uniquely diffused light. These glass components not only emit a soft, ambient glow but also capture the subtle textures and tones of their surroundings, enhancing the atmosphere of the space.
The Art Deco Movement
The design echoes the signature elements of the Art Deco movement: clean lines, geometric precision, and understated luxury. The Deco Bonsai achieves a sense of timeless sophistication by paying homage to these stylistic principles while incorporating contemporary techniques. The stretched form of the fixture feels organic yet intentional, much like the natural flow of a bonsai tree, making it a piece that connects deeply with both the architecture and the homeowners’ aesthetic vision.
Soothing ambiance: Deco Bonsai Ivanhoe
Illumination is where this fixture truly shines—both literally and figuratively. By dispersing light evenly across its expanse, it transforms the entryway and hall into inviting, dynamic spaces. The diffused quality of the light creates a soothing ambiance that feels warm and welcoming, ensuring guests are greeted with an atmosphere of quiet luxury.
The Deco Bonsai is more than a lighting feature; it is an installation that bridges art and design. Each glass element and every line of its expansive form works together to tell a story of craftsmanship and creativity, leaving a lasting impression on all who experience it.
