“Cloud 9” (A feeling of extreme happiness or euphoria) by Jan Flook Lighting

Location: 120-200 Rosamond Rd, Maribyrnong VIC 3032
Client: Westfield

Located within Highpoint Shopping Centre in Maribyrnong, Cloud 9 is more than an installation—it’s an experience in artistic expression. Designed for Westfield, this sculptural lighting and water feature captures the essence of its namesake (a feeling of extreme happiness or euphoria), creating a space where elegance and emotion intertwine.

A Sculptural Symphony of Light and Water

An expanse of anodized rods forms an undulating “cloud,” a stunning centerpiece that hovers above a cascading water feature. The intricate interplay of light and texture invites viewers to pause and marvel at its poetic beauty. Each rod has been meticulously arranged to emulate the ethereal movement of a raincloud, transforming the ordinary into the extraordinary.

Immersive Ambiance and Subtle Reflections

As light filters through the moiré of suspended rods, it creates a mesmerizing dappled effect. The gentle diffusion evokes the serene feeling of standing beneath a raincloud, where light and water dance in harmony. This visual interplay ensures that Cloud 9 is not just seen but felt, offering an immersive experience for visitors moving through the shopping center.

Blending Functionality with Refinement

While visually breathtaking, Cloud 9 also serves as a functional design element that elevates the shopping center’s ambiance. It creates a tranquil focal point within the bustling retail environment, offering a sense of calm and wonder to shoppers and passersby alike.

A Testament to Artistic Innovation

Cloud 9 stands as a refined and poetic example of how design can evoke emotion and transport viewers into a state of euphoria. It’s more than a sculptural installation—it’s a moment of joy and tranquility within Melbourne’s Highpoint Shopping Centre, redefining the experience of public spaces.
